Applications to conduct activities within Appalachian Power Company's Project Boundary on Smith Mountain and Leesville lakes are located below
Dock permits are necessary to construct, expand or modify a dock on Smith Mountain and Leesville lakes. Additional permits are required by the County in which the property is located. Appalachian Power Company Permits must be issued to property owners. A property owner may transfer a permit to a new property owner after the property has been sold by completing the Assignment of Permit form.
Existing docks that do not conform to the regulations set forth in the Shoreline Management Plan may continue to exist despite their nonconforming nature. Nonconforming structures destroyed by accident, natural event or the intentional or wrongful act of another party may replace the destroyed structure with another structure of the same footprint upon receipt of a permit from AEP and any other necessary permits unless the structure has been destroyed for more than two (2) years. To be considered as part of the nonconforming structures provisions of the Shoreline Management Plan property owners must submit documentation of structures built below the 795 contour at Smith Mountain Lake and the 613 contour at Leesville Lake. Documentation must be submitted to Appalachian by August 31, 2005. The application to document an existing nonconforming structure is located below.
